Project Overview

We built Tartan & Thistle, a luxury pet grooming boutique and Scottish heritage e-commerce platform operating out of Whangārei, New Zealand. Traditional pet store websites rely on generic Shopify liquid themes that suffer from sluggish loading speeds, rigid product catalog presentations, and lack personalized shopping guidance. Tartan & Thistle needed a distinctive digital flagship that reflects their high-end grooming standard while delivering an intelligent, personalized shopping journey. We engineered a headless commerce architecture using Shopify Hydrogen 2.0 (powered by Remix and React) hosted globally on Shopify Oxygen. At the core of the digital storefront is the Tartan & Thistle AI Concierge—an autonomous pet styling and care specialist that converses with pet owners in real time, recommends bespoke tweed collars, harnesses, and sensitive-skin coat shampoos, and injects interactive "+ Add to Cart" cards directly into the conversation. The platform also includes an interactive Pet Matcher quiz flow, algorithmic Frequently Paired Together smart product bundles, a treatment appointment booking menu, and a Clan Canine VIP membership portal.

Studied Tartan & Thistle’s unique Scottish canine boutique brand identity, grooming treatment protocols (Full Tartan Spa, Little Highlander, Elder Glen), and high-margin retail collections to design an AI-first digital experience.

UI/UX Design

Designed a bespoke luxury dark heritage interface (Forest Green #1B3B2B, Warm Gold #D4AF37, Cream #FAF8F5) featuring high-density typography, interactive service transformation sliders, and a floating AI Concierge widget.

AI & Automation

Implemented the Hydrogen 2.0 storefront with Storefront GraphQL queries, built the conversational AI Concierge with semantic catalog retrieval, and developed the multi-tab Pet Matcher quiz engine.

Testing & Deployment

Deployed the headless application across Shopify Oxygen’s worldwide edge CDN, achieving sub-second Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and 98+ Google Lighthouse performance scores.
